Wow, you need to dust out this Director's
corner! Sorry about that! But let me share where all
the dust is coming from.
Life at the Mission has been busy! Of
course life for me has been busy all the way around.
My mom has recovered well from her broken hip and is
home and getting around with just a walker. That she
recovered well was a huge blessing with all that has
been going on at the Lighthouse.
A few months ago we heard that Casa
Latina, a women's recovery program here in town was
closing due to a lack of funding. We contacted them
and we talked about how the Lighthouse could partner
with them. As it turns out we are merging Casa Latina
into Rescue Mission Alliance. In the in-between time
Casa Latina closed their doors on July 31, 2007. The
Lighthouse went in and with some minor repairs (painting,
planting, a new roof, and a bit of remolding) and on
December 1, 2007 reopened as the Lighthouses newest
facilities.
There is still plenty of work to be
done. And the girls and the maintenance crews are working
on it. And we'd be happy to have your help. We are still
in need of some smaller items: curtains, blinds, TV
wall mounts, etc... And we have some larger items we
would love to have someone donate: new kitchen cabinets
and counter tops, storage closets, landscaping materials,
new flooring, etc...
The addition of our newest facilities
allows us to help more and more folks. We now have an
82 bed capacity: 10 beds in our new Life Boat Overnight
Cot program, 20 beds in our Safe Harbor Emergency Shelter
program, 4 beds in our Employment Search Program, and
48 beds in our Life Recovery program.
If you would like to learn more about
what we do we'd love to have you come to one of our
"Exploring the Journey" luncheons. We have
them on the second Tuesday of each month at Noon. Please
give us a call and we'll get you signed up. You could
even just pop in if you end up with the time at the
last minute.
And of course you can stop in for a
tour any time. There really isn't anything we like to
do more than give tours. As well tell the story of what
we do here we get energized all over again.
Well, I best get back to work - lots
to do!
God Bless,
